Decade Distraction

Ok, we all go through phases..right?
Well, just when I probably need to be concentrating on my Salon Project the most (with a presentation of my concept this Friday), it's possibly the worst time for me to get distracted...
So why do I find myself watching loads of '80s films?!
I still love The Breakfast Club the best though :)

If anyone knows any good ones, let me know....

What? I can do work later.

Sci-Fi Love

 Apparently not..

Best costume book ever?

I remember finding this book really bizarre..
..and YES that really is a child dressed up as a picnic...

I love how in the photo above (the clock costume), the descriptions says something like
"could have arm holes, but it's better without them".
I'm sorry...WHAT?! Who is that really better for?
I guess we do need to keep this costume as realistic as possible, it would be absurd to cut holes for the eyes.
So much planning must go into these costumes, I don't know who I feel sorry for more..the parents or the kids..
(Actually I'm gonna have to go with kids, mainly due to the clock costume...)

Personally, I'd love to see the picnic girl take a casual stroll in the park.

Grumpy Sketches

I got bored of my uni project, so I took a break from it and flicked through a street art book and decided to do a couple of sketches inspired by

It's oKKK, it's just a dream...

So last time I created an image using photoshop to illustrate the creepy clown dream I had (click link) and the other night I had another weird dream which made absolutely NO sense, so I thought I'd do the same.
It was just me and some other people sitting on a picnic table outside eating pizza (as you do) and in the distance a big group of people from the Ku Klux Klan were gathering. Really weird...and then I saw hedgehogs in the grass too.

Yep, I struggle to see the meaning of this dream too...but I'd love some pizza right now.

Son of Babylon.

“Every Iraqi has ten stories for ten films”

                                                                                                                            - Mohamed Al-Daradjii

The other day, I was invited to a group viewing in London for the Iraqi Drama film, Son of Babylon, directed by Mohamed Al-Daradji.
I don't like to give away too much about a film, but it follows the journey of a young boy and his grandmother searching for her missing son in Iraq, who never returned after the war.
It's just beautifully filmed and you feel exhausted watching them travel from city to city, it's like you're right there behind them, part of their journey, and getting a real sense of what has become of Iraq today.
I felt like I was watching a documentary because they act so naturally, it's effortless, and I guess that's what makes it so heartbreaking to watch.
Some of the footage is actually real, with women screaming and crying with grief, mourning over what can only be described as bags of remains within the horrorific mass graves.
It's truly an emotional film, I could hear the women sitting behind me crying, because anyone from Iraq in the room (which was the majority of people) could relate to the loss and suffering these characters were feeling.

“When the camera is rolling on the streets of Baghdad it means this country exists.”
                                  - Mohamed Al-Daradji

If you're curious about the situation in Iraq, then this film will really open your eyes.

Thanks for reading.

Why thank you!

I love getting late birthday presents, and my friend always manages to find cute quirky gifts. I have no idea where she finds these things, but I'm glad she does :)
A book by Tim Burton and a Victorian portrait style bracelet with dancers on it.
The first two pages of the book:
 Tragic I know...

A fox can dream..

I photoshopped this image, and reversed the roles of this Fox Hunting situation and basically gave the power to the Foxes (woo). I imagine this is what they'd daydream or plot about if they had big enough brains..bless them.
Maybe one day.......but for now they should run.

My day in photos.

My breakfast is crap.
Yes, that's my shadow, how creative am I?

Didn't know Islington had a Queen, but I'm happy for them.

I love this window display. I wonder what the idea behind it is, or if it's completely random.

YUM. I don't think you ever get too old.
People like tradition, if it works, why change it?
Yes please. I need to come back here.
I love how out of place this Moss shop looks compared to the surrounding buildings, it's like it's too stubborn and refuses to move.
Random sketching with a William Morris flower explosion
Reading this book at the moment, It's a bit slow and I hope it gets better, I only picked it up because it mentioned supernatural evil..
