Postcards from the past...

I know most things in vintage shops once belonged to people from the past, but I guess it's still weird when you find a box of old photos and postcards. Each photo is a single moment in someone's life and now it's in a little scruffy box for me to have a look through. Imagine someone buying a photo of you one day? Weird I know, but at the same time I find it really interesting, I feel like I'm reading someone's diary cos it's so personal.
What did they do after that photo was taken?
Who are they? Who took the photo? What was their life like?
And why the hell are these photos now being sold in this shop?!
I guess every photo tells a story.
This postcard is so cute, I just love the part that says,
"also hope you are a good boy at school".
I literally could have spent the whole day in this shop reading other people's postcards. Some of them dated back to the early 20's. That's crazy.
I know it's old fashioned, but lets face it, getting a postcard is SO much better than reading a facebook status about someone's holiday.

Portobello Road

Going to uni in Newcastle has made me realise how I really don't make the most of living so close to London. So now that I'm back at home for a couple of weeks, I guess I'm making the most it.
I love Portobello Road - trendy atmosphere, colourful houses and quirky markets.
What's not to love?
There are so many different corners of London, it's actually endless.
I'm not sure these boys realised they looked exactly the same, but I found it amusing so I had to take a photo.

Home sweet home.

It's good to be back home, even if it is only for about three weeks..
The view from my window.

On the train back home I saw an old man holding a bunch of flowers and I thought it was the sweetest thing. It would have been the perfect photo, but I don't think he would've appreciated it so I thought I'd draw it.
It's nice to see the gesture never gets old :)

Shake it but don't break it.

The sun was shining (for once) so I thought why the hell not make some milkshakes.
With Kit Kat being the only chocolate in the house, the Kit Kat milkshake was created.
Easy peasy, all you need is ice cream, milk and whatever the hell you want
(make sure it's edible though, there are limits).
Yeh full fat milk...and what!
taa daa!

Do you ever think?

I always find myself daydreaming and asking myself odd questions...
Here are some images I've created to demonstrate those odd thoughts:

Some of the photos that helped create my images were found on:

Long legs of the law.

So I came across this photo thinking wow when the hell did Victorians have policemen on stilts...but you know what? I accepted it, the photo was in black and white so of course it was old..

But no, apparently you can hire these guys so they can..erm...you know...juggle and look tall..
Maybe someone got the idea after attending a really boring party..
"This party is definitely missing something"
"I know, needs more beer, right?"
"Nah..actually it's more that they don't have......."

Summer Craving

Ahh I keep thinking about the summer (it's better than thinking about project deadlines).
Parks, sun (one can hope), BBQs, music, family and friends.
Yes please, sounds good to me.
A quick little thing I did on photoshop
An upside down photo of me & my friends on boxhill.
Must...focus...on...work..
Not long now.

Before I die...

THINK.
What is that one thing that you've always thought
'I defnitely need to do that before I die'?

We all do it, whether its getting that dream job, travelling around the world or maybe it's just too personal to say outloud..
Candy Chang, a public installation artist, created a giant chalkboard where residents could express what was really important to them. It turns neglected areas, like this space in New Orleans, into somewhere where you can learn the hopes and dreams of people around you.
Such a simply idea which makes you question yourself too.
Personal favourites: "paint a picture that makes people cry" and "be a youtube sensation".
Once the board is full, the board is washed and it starts again with a clean slate. The responses are kept on record though.
So, what do you want to do before you die?

Before I die I want to see the Northern Lights.

Lack of sleep.

I always find myself leaving work to the last minute.
"ok that is the last time I'm doing that"
Or not..

I think my uni knows there's students out there like me, and so they took pity and invented the 24 hour library. It's a bit depressing though when you're heading towards the library at 10pm and you pass students that are already drunk and heading towards a club.
The only drinks I'll be having are the ones from the vending machine.
Wonderful.
Coming back from the library at 5am and even the tv is mocking me :(
