London Snaps.

I took a few quick photos the other day in Shoreditch, London.
Even though I feel like a tourist, I just like keeping my camera handy in case I see anything cool.
No harm in that is there?
(Unless your camera gets stolen, which would be really unfortunate for you.)

I love spotting graffiti poking out of corners.

Permanent markers making a mark on this car. Permanently.
I kinda like it, it's going for the "I accidently let my children decorate my car" look.

A Single Man.

If this film was a man, he'd be stylish, sharp, sad but very good looking.
Guys take note!

A message in chalk.

I came across this message when I went for a jog today (and by jog I really mean walk - lets be realistic here).
I looked into where the quote is from and its from a book entitled
The Dharma Bums by Jack Kerouac
Apparently the book is "based on experiences the writer had during the mid-1950s while living in California, after he'd become interested in Buddhism's spiritual mode of understanding"

Has anyone read this book?
Sounds interesting, it could be a good read.

(Never too) Old Street, London

We came across this cool installation, which I have now discovered is by TROIKA.
It mocks the British for their obsession with the weather - focusing on the 'past' rather than the 'forecast' which plays on our constant sense of urgency relying on phone apps/ internet/ just basically any technology to stay updated!

London Bridge

Forget about sea view, it's all about the bridge view baby!
OK, so I'd like to say I sat here, ate a posh sandwich, sipped on an ice cold drink, exchanging the latest gossip with friends (aka bitching) whilst enjoying the views of London...but I'm a student and I'm just not that cool.
For now a photo will simply have to do! But I do think it's quite nice to see certain landmarks from another angle, it definitely beats the standard postcard position.
How do I always manage to get a seagull perfectly situated in my photo? Awesome.

And by 'postcard position' I mean like the photo above, probably with the addition of an extremely witty phrase that reads 'Greetings from London!'

Mind blowing I know.

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close.

I didn't think I'd like this movie as much as I did.
Now I kinda wish I read the novel first because it's probably 100 times better!

DIY: Sleeveless Top

Time for a bit of DIY.
I found myself an All Saints top from a charity shop for £6 in hopes that I could revamp it a little.
Don't think my mum was pleased I bought something only to go and cut it up.
SO here goes...
The end result!

Home for the summer!

Back home for the summer after a pretty uncomfortable journey on the coach after managing to find seats beautifully positioned next to the toilet. LOVELY
With my neck feeling like someone decided to stand on it for about 7 hours, I was finally back in London.
Spreading the word of my return, they decided to decorate the streets and station just for me.
Thanks guys, I just love what you did with the space.

Wait, so how do you spell that?

My housemate is so sweet, she went and bought a little late birthday present while we were in Urban Outfitters.
The sneaky one was trying to see what I liked in the shop.
"oooh, what do you think about this?"
"I know, lets pick our favourite piece of jewellery"
"what do you like best? rings? earrings? necklaces? short or long?"
Bless her.

Thanks Jess :)

A bit more London Love..

A few more photos from my short break at home over Easter.
This building just looked sooooooo strange, it needed a photo!
"lovely home, now where's the rest of it?"
Benny boy up close and some graffiti in Angel
I always wonder what some graffiti means, it's really quite frustrating not knowing.

Lars and the Real Girl.

I think I just fell in love...with this film.
It's just so beautifully sad.
The story initially seems somewhat awkwardly comical and, like anyone, when you don't fully understand something, you judge certain things on the surface to be weird and funny. It's a shame, but it's in our nature, right?
But give something a chance and take the time to understand something and you realise that it's not that weird, not that funny and it actually makes perfect sense.
If I'm not quite selling it, I apologize..but did I mention it's got Ryan Gosling in it? He owns a lovely collection of festive jumpers? And does a brilliant rendition of Nat King Cole's L.O.V.E?
Need I say more...
"L is for the way you look at me!...."

DIY: High Waisted Denim Shorts!

image via theniftyfifties.tumblr
It can't be denied that high waisted shorts are trending this summer, but of course loads of shops take advantage and sell them at silly silly prices (*cough* TOPSHOP,URBANOUTFITTERS..just sayin')
If anything you're better off hitting up some vintage shops first and finding a perfectly good pair for half the price. I did! However, I didn't just wanna stick to one pair because I'm greedy like that and wanted some in a lighter shade BUT being the stubborn student I am, I wanted to see if I could make my own.
SO........I just managed to find a pair of GAP jeans in a charity shop that just happened to be high waisted, the perfect colour and in my size. OH and how much did these set me back? £1.
Yep, I think I can just about afford that thanks.
Thank God it was reduced from £4, I don't know what I would have done!

Out of the hum of the street lights and into a forest.

Over Easter I managed to go see a beautiful little band called Daughter.
Her voice is actually flawless and yet every time she finished her song it was like she got all embarrassed when people started clapping, as if she couldn't believe people were applauding HER. Who me? Yes YOU! The girl is too modest. Lovely gig though, and the support band Theme Park were really good too, their music would be perfect for the summer, lets hope they get big too.
Daughter doing her thaaaang.
Theme Park doing their thaaang.
What? We were hungry ok..
Getting an 'Angel' monopoly thingy in McDonald's whilst being in Angel Islington, spooooky.

p.s If anyone has any nice bands to recommend, please go for it, because I'm always stuck on finding new music!

Some London Love...

Sometimes it's nice to take a stroll through the nicer parts of London and dream a little.

Stressed is desserts spelt backwards.

I've been slacking with blogging recently haven't I?
Well I basically had this project deadline to help re-design and re-brand this museum, and after successfully demolishing my sleeping pattern, raising anxiety levels I never knew I had and heavily relying on make-up to ensure 'zombie' wasn't the look I was going for, I WAS DONE. Relief? Far from it. I managed to fuck it all up when it came down to actually handing in the work, and with your tutors counting down from 10 seconds as if on some warped supermarket sweep (minus Dale Winton and the big inflatable banana), I can't say it helps.
ON A BRIGHTER NOTE. Let's rewind a week shall we? When I had to get the train home from King's Cross to Newcastle with my sister, my dad decided to surprise us at the station to give us a proper send off. He's a sweet man my dad, and to think we were almost annoyed he'd so typically made us arrive 50 minutes early at the station!
I think I'll let him off just this once ;)
So we sat down outside Giraffe Cafe in the station, admired the new architecture (which is incredible btw), had ourselves a hot chocolate, brownie and carrot cupcake and then we were off...
Admiring King's Cross architecture with a carrot cupcake, there shouldn't be any other way to do so.

The Lights On, But Nobody's Home.

Bit confused as to why someone has decided to abandon their dollhouse today.
Maybe the children discovered the Xbox?
It just looked really odd, and it looks like the bailiffs have got to the furniture already (bastards).
Imagine if the dollhouse was an exact replica of the house it was outside. My mind would explode.
I think I will cry if this suddenly appears outside my house tomorrow morning.
"WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!"
Is what I'd probably find myself saying (with dramatic arm gestures) if that did happen...
They could at least shut the door, we don't want any intruders jeeeez

Film night!

Tyneside Cinema do this thing where they show a film at their little bar, so you get people sitting at tables casually drinking wine, tea and eating mini eggs (yes mini eggs).
Now, what I'd really like to say is "hmmmmm yes I'm very into my films" but hey I saw it was Ryan Gosling  season and...well that just beats any season tbh (move aside Winter).
Can't say I remember what the film was called..I was just staring at- AH ok it's called
HALF NELSON
Shakey filming, daily struggles, natural laughter & unlikely friendships.
Babe, you can be my teacher ANY day of the week (even saturdays...)
